Growing up
in the New England, one of my favorite
activities has been apple picking. If you’ve never done it, it’s when you drive
to your local apple orchard and you get to run around the orchard and pick
apples right off of the tree. When I was a kid, I used to climb up the trees,
can’t do that anymore.
Well, my
days of apple picking are gone, at least while I live is South
Florida. I’ve replaced apples with golfing. Seems that is a year
round sport down here, and I must admit in the summer when it’s wicked hot I
may not agree with this notion.
I went to F.A.U. after coming to Florida. I majored in
their M.I.S. program. While I was there I worked with the volunteer center and
had an opportunity to teach a class called W.O.W. Weeks of Welcome. This was pretty cool, we taught
the students networking and web design. By the class end they had posted their work
online, last I checked it was still online here http://wise.fau.edu/crop.
Lately I’ve
been spending a fair amount of time keeping up with the latest technologies Ajax and Web 2.0. Very exciting
things coming, was lucky enough to be part of two start up ventures and learned
a lot about developing applications for cell phones. We were mainly using J2ME,
now known as Java
ME. Still spend a bit of time playing, this is so big now. To think of the things
that we could utilize our phones for, it’s endless isn’t it?
I was an avid martial artist at one point. Studied Ed Parkers' Kenpo Karate under Dave Staples in Massachusetts. Found a place when I moved here and practiced there for a while. Wound up at a different place for a while and I've now been out of it for a few years. Been really wanting to get back to it lately.
